Richard Coverdale with the ball and Craig Dodsworth with the bat engineered a tenth win of the season to keep Sheriff Hutton five points ahead of Beverley Town in division four.
Batting first, Pickering were given a good start when Kev Wilson (43) and Les Barker (39) put on 86 for the first wicket.
Phil Aconley then made 33 before becoming one of Coverdale's early victims and the former Sheriff Hutton Bridge youngster proceeded to take his first seven-wicket haul for 59 as Pickering made 191-9, a total which received a handy late order boost from Ian Turnbull, who was undefeated with 34.
After losing two wickets for 48, Sheriff were put firmly on the victory trail when Dodsworth and Ben Tompkins added 109 for the third wicket until Dodsworth was run out for 89.
Tompkins progressed to 47no by the time Sheriff won by seven wickets in the 43rd over.
