Bill Tinning, who trains just three horses at Thornton-le-Clay near Castle Howard, can have success at Catterick tomorrow.

He saddles Compton Plume in the six furlongs Durham Cheshire Home Charity Next Friday Night Handicap .

A winner over this course and distance last season, Compton Plume gave notice of returning to form when a close-up second to Tribute at Catterick a fortnight ago, beaten by only a head in a thrilling finish.

Compton Plume, who was not well drawn that day, is fancied to go one better this time in the hands of Dale Gibson.

Norton jockey Tom Eaves, who has spent much of the summer on the sidelines with a broken arm, returns to action with good prospects of a winning on Court Of Appeal in the 'Wetherby Steeplechases' Claiming Stakes.

Norton trainer Brian Ellison's gelding is pretty smart at this lowly level, as he showed when winning at Catterick recently in smooth style. A follow-up is on the cards tomorrow, which would be a boost for Eaves, a former successful apprentice, who lost his allowance earlier this season.

Robert Winston, who rode five winners on Saturday - two at Thirsk in the afternoon and three at Hamilton in the evening - can add to his tally at Catterick.

Winston, now 5-4 favourite to win the jockeys' championship, has good prospects on Green 'n' Gold in the 'Janadriyah' Selling Stakes, course winner Crathorne in the catterbridge.co.uk Handicap, and Nap selection Merlins Profit, successful at Musselburgh last week, in the 'Catterick Bridge' Handicap.
