THREE York teachers have received glowing reports on a website that turns the tables and lets students rate their work.

James Ruddle, a maths teacher at Huntington School, Linda Mills, a language teacher at All Saints' School, and Steve Mort, assistant head teacher at All Saints' School, have all come out as top fliers on RateMyTeachers.co.uk

Other schools listed on the site include Malton School, Ampleforth College and Selby High School.

The website lets pupils and parents anonymously have their say about what they really think of the teachers - good and bad or otherwise.

It allows students to give their teacher a mark out of five in three key areas - helpfulness, how easy they are to get along with and clarity. It also asks for comments on teachers' performance.

James Ruddle has three entries, one of which gives him an aggregate score of 14, and states: "He's ace! Especially as a form tutor - really easy going. You know where you stand with him."

The site is governed by strict rules to stop pupils or parents carrying out personal grudges and is meant to reflect an accurate insight in to what is happening in the classroom.

Steve Mort, 32, has been at All Saints', where he teaches history and religious education, for a year, but has already made a good impression.

One comment on Mr Mort reads: "Great teacher. Great guy. Just do not get on the wrong side of him. In situations he can exaggerate circumstances and tells you 'we can find you a new school'."

Mr Mort said: "I'm quite surprised. It's the end of my first year at the school so I suppose it's quite a nice and fitting ending.

"I find the job very rewarding and I'm sure there are lots of my other colleagues who are deserving of such praise."

Mrs Mills, who has taught German and French at the specialist language college for 11 years and has been acting head of year nine, said: "This is really nice, but honestly I go in and do the job and come home again.

"I'm sure there are lots of other excellent teachers who are equally deserving."

All Saints' deputy head Vic Klays said: "That the hard work that good teachers put in to their job gets praise on sites like these can only be a good thing in my eyes and both these teachers are deserving of the praise pupils have given them."

Chairman of governors, Joe Campbell, said: "The fact that the children have given these comments about two people that obviously deserve them speaks for itself."
