THE Yorkollective Volume 2 CD will be launched at gigs at Fibbers, in Stonebow, York on July 20-21.

Profits will go to towards building a website for local bands at www.yorkollective.co.uk and the next compilation CD, according to organiser Sam Robson.

"The way Yorkollective works is that it's managed by me and put together and promoted by local bands. Basically I noticed a problem for local unsigned musicians: it's really hard to promote yourself to a wider audience in the local area.

"So the purpose of the CD is to provide a low-budget promotional tool where musicians work together to get their music out there on a local scale," he said.

Each band contributes to CDRs that are copied in equal amounts by each of them, with a song by each group. The CD then sits on the bar at Fibbers for punters to take for free. "The idea is that local bands have direct access to the public and are working cohesively together to help each other out. This is a totally non-profit venture; all proceeds are to cover costs," Sam said.

Volume 2 showcases Black Night Crash, Ryan Shirlow and the Bloody Marys, Fibbers/Evening Press Battle of the Bands 2005 runners-up Cardboard Radio, The Hair, Kanuba, AKP, My Salvation and Delta Volts.

Doors open at 7.30pm for the 8.15pm start each night at this week's gigs, where The Hair, Delta Volts, My Salvation and Black Night Crash play tonight, followed by AKP, Cardboard Radio, Red:Shift and Hedcage on Thursday. Admission is £4.

Bands interested in becoming involved in Yorkollective should send an email to yorkollective@gmail.com or contact Sam Robson on 0773 901 2448.
