FORMER vicar of Kirkbymoorside, the Rev Alan Hughes, has written a little book to help teach the basics of the Christian faith to the young - and to remind older people about things they may have forgotten.

Key characters in the book are a lamb called Lambrock and Harry, the Jack Russell terrier. Mr Hughes used the two regularly when taking school assemblies and Sunday school services while working in Ryedale.

Mr Hughes's daughter Tamsin - a former pupil of Lady Lumley's in Pickering who is now a soprano at the Royal Scottish Academy - drew the cartoons. And his wife Susan, who is well known in North Yorkshire for her sketches of churches and prayer cards, drew the pictures of Berwick-upon- Tweed, where Mr Hughes is now vicar. The schools of Kirkbymoorside and Gillamoor are mentioned on the book's back cover.

Anybody wanting a copy for an Easter present should send a cheque for £3 with a stamped addressed envelope to Mr Hughes at The Vicarage, Parade, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumbria TD15 1DF.
