YORK Rugby League Club and amateurs Norland face further Rugby Football League investigation following their fiery Silk Cut Challenge Cup third round clash on Sunday.

A series of ugly incidents marred the tie at Huntington Stadium, which the Wasps won 37-5, and the match video has been passed to the RFL operations board.

First viewing of the video resulted in Norland captain Jimmy Western being hauled before tonight's RFL disciplinary committee, under rule 11-1 (a) which covers 'tripping, kicking, or striking' another player.

But an RFL spokesman today revealed that the clubs may also be rapped for "various people entering the field of play", including one spectator from the popular stand who appeared to remonstrate with the officials. The spokesman added that, should the operations board feel there is a case to answer, the match will be investigated further by a sub-committee.

The third round tie erupted into fighting on three occasions. Referee Paul Lee placed the first two incidents on report and after the third the official sin-binned York's Lea Tichener and Norland forward Brian Robinson, before red carding the amateurs' coach Keith Foster.

Norland stand-off Darren Hutchinson, sent off for a high tackle in the 16th minute, will be dealt with by tonight's disciplinary committee hearing.

Meanwhile, Wasps chief executive Phil Elliott told the Evening Press the new match day draw run by the board raised "in excess of £200".

The club's board are operating their own draw after banning the York RL Supporters' Club from running their Wasps Winners draw at home games.

The board of directors claim the proceeds of the cash draw should be pumped straight back into the club, while the supporters' club stated they were independent of the club.

Said Elliott: "It raised in excess of £200. That is not the issue. The issue is that money went straight into the club. It is not the amount we raise but the ability to use it as we want. It all comes in as cash.

"It is grossly unfair for people to sit and deliberate on monies when we need it desperately. I do not care whether we raise £10 or £1,000, the principle needs to be established. Money raised on behalf of the club should be made available to the club when they become due."

Supporters' Club chairman Dennis Baker maintains that more than 95 per cent of all money raised by the organisation has gone to the club.

Baker added that the Wasps Winners draw would have likely made more than £300 from Sunday's attendance of 965, with almost half the cash being paid out to the winning ticket holder.
