MENSHAAR who caught the eye running well over a woefully inadequate distance at Catterick two weeks ago, returns to the same course tomorrow and will relish the step up to nearly three and a quarter miles in the Cowton Handicap Hurdle.

A proven stayer, Menshaar ran over only two miles on his latest start and shaped surprisingly well.

Always in touch with the leaders, he ran on nicely from the home turn, despite lacking the pace of the principals, to finish a creditable fourth just over ten lengths behind winner Brambles Way.

Trained by Len Lungo, whose horses are in fine form, Menshaar will be well served by tomorrow's stamina test and, with Robbie Supple in the saddle, is napped to gain his first success of the campaign.

Shining Edge, apparently none the worse after a nasty fall at Doncaster a week ago, reappears in the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery Handicap Chase.

Tim Easterby's smart novice, a winner on this course this season, came to grief five fences from home at Doncaster when disputing the lead. He was travelling nicely at the time and is worth another chance tomorrow.

Prime Example gets my vote in the Stayers' Novices' Chase over three miles and one and a half furlongs.

Prime Example, trained in the Lake District by Martin Todhunter, was an easy winner over the same course and distance two outings ago and finished a respectable third to Feels Like Gold in a warmish race at Ayr last Saturday.

He is fancied to get back on top tomorrow especially if, as he loves to do, he is allowed to dominate from the start. Paul Carberry has the mount.

On the Flat at Southwell, Zalotto has the ability to win the Langford Apprentices' Claiming Stakes. Whether he shows the commitment is another matter.

This Tim Etherington-owned gelding needs things to go just right to show his best form.

He broke a long, losing sequence on this course a fortnight ago when, under a superb ride from Tony Culhane, he was produced to lead late and not shown the whip.

Apprentice Paul Bradley may not find it easy to repeat those winning tactics but if thing go smoothly Zalotto has the ability to score again.
