TITANIC is on course to be the biggest ever movie hit at the Warner Village Cinema in Clifton Moor, York.

Traffic queues have formed on the road leading to the cinema on the past two weekends, while tickets have been selling out up to four hours before each show.

James Cameron's epic romantic adventure, starring British star Kate Winslet and the young American heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio, opened on January 23 at the Warner Village multiplex - as well as the York Odeon.

It is playing in three of the 12 screens, offering a capacity of 1,100.

There are 53 screenings a week, with nine on Saturdays, eight on Fridays and Sundays, and seven daily from Monday to Thursday.

These figures have been rivalled only by Jurassic Park and Independence Day.

"I can't give you the exact figures, but virtually every performance in the evening, and particularly at the weekends, has been selling out," says general manager Andrew Josephs.

"This is certainly the most popular film we've had since we opened here in 1990 - the only one to come even close to it was Independence Day.

"We'll be looking to continue running it in three screens until the business drops off."

Mr Josephs advises cinema-goers to book for Titanic screenings.

Meanwhile, York Odeon manager Pam Fallon reports good box-office business for the $200 million Titanic, the most expensive film ever made. "It has been going very well and will be staying in Screen One for at least another week," she said. To book tickets, ring the Warner Village Cinema on 01904 691199 or the Odeon on 01904 623287.
