A FREE seminar for managers and union representatives on preventing workplace illness has been organised by the TUC at the Jarvis Abbey Park Hotel, The Mount, York, on Wednesday afternoon.

The two-and-a-half-hour seminar, starting at 3.30pm, will address the annual £5 billion national bill for illnesses arising from work, such as asthma, deafness, dermatitis and RSI, as well as the big killer of around 3,000 people a year - asbestos.

MPs in the region will be invited to attend a reception afterwards.

The seminar, entitled Good Health Is Shared Business, is backed by the government's Health and Safety Executive which emphasises that managers and Union safety representatives should work together to improve health at work.

Organiser Owen Tudor said: "The TUC wants union safety reps and their managers to raise their health and safety game and we want them to do it together, because good health is good for workers and good for business."
