Fulford teenager Jason Eccles could be following in the fairway footsteps of British golf's new sensation Justin Rose.

Eccles, 16, won the Fulford qualifying round of the Daily Telegraph/Center Parcs junior championship with a gross 82, eight strokes ahead of Luke Smith.

Eccles must now wait until later this month to discover whether he has earned a place in the final to be held at Georgia, United States, in September.

Rose, who hit the headlines for his exploits in the recent Open Championship, was last year's winner.

Jessica Lewis, a 14-year-old Fulford member, has a similar wait after winning the girls' section with a 92. Heather Rodgers was in second place.

Rebecca Hudson, the Yorkshire champion from Wheatley last year, won the girls' event. She played in the Curtis Cup this week.Eccles also won the Ebor Trophy, a Fulford junior section event with a nett 67, two strokes ahead of William Try with Luke Smith a further stroke away in third place.
