Yorkshire County Cricket by David Warner

The weather had reverted to type at Headingley today where no play was possible before lunch on the opening day of Yorkshire's championship match against table toppers Surrey.

Heavy rain throughout the morning showed few signs of clearing quickly and the delay looked like being a lengthy one.

Darren Gough was ruled out of Yorkshire's side because of a hamstring strain he picked up yesterday in the Test match.

But Yorkshire were bringing in Halifax-born all-rounder Gary Fellows for his first class debut in place of the out-of-form batsman Anthony McGrath with Craig White taking over from Darren Lehmann who is now back in Australia.

Fellows, who has scored around 900 runs this summer for the second team, plays for Pudsey St Lawrence and on Sunday he claimed a hat-trick and scored a half-century.
