Roebuck join schools' league

Appleton Roebuck have joined the York and District Schools Primary Football Leagues for the coming season.

Schools in the York area are back in session this week and the first soccer league fixtures are due to be completed by the end of next week.

Next week's fixtures, to be completed by September 12 are:

Primary A: Poppleton Road v Kingsway 'A'; Westfield v Clifton Without.

Primary B: Carr v Wigginton, Ralph Butterfield Haxby Road.

Primary C: Hob Moor v Bishopthorpe, Park Grove v English Martyrs, Tang Hall v St Wilfrid's.

Primary D: Derwent v Dringhouses, Headlands v Knavesmire, Ralph Butterfield v St Aelred's.

Primary E: Appleton Roebuck v Skelton, Kingsway 'B' v Lakeside, St Barnabas v Copmanthorpe.

U12 League: Lowfield v Archbishop's, Manor v Burnholme, Canon Lee v Tadcaster, Huntington v Fulford, Millthorpe v Oaklands.

U13 League: Manor v Burnholme, Canon Lee v Tadcaster, Huntington v Fulford, Millthorpe v Oaklands.

U14 League: All Saints v J Rowntree, Archbishops v Lowfield, Burnholme v Manor, Tadcaster v Canon Lee, Fulford v Huntington, Oaklands v Millthorpe.

U15 League: All Saints v J Rowntree, Burnholme v Manor, Tadcaster v Canon Lee, Fulford v Huntington, Oaklands v Millthorpe.

City Boys trials

Trials to select the various York City Boys teams for 1998-99 are being held this month. They are:

U13s and U14s on Monday, September 7 at 4.15pm at the All Saints playing field, Simbalk Lane.

U11s on Wednesday, September 9, at 4.15pm at the All Saints playing field, Simbalk Lane.

U15s on Saturday, September 19 at 10am at Wigginton. This will be an Open Trial.

Results of all games, including semi finals and finals and small sides competitions, should reach secretary, Peter Wilmott, at 217 Beckfield Lane, Acomb, York YO26 5PH (tel 01904 791416) as soon as possible after the game has been played. Both teams should send in the result.

Results of knock-out games must reach him by 9pm on the day of the deadline. The Secondary and Primary secretaries may decide to exclude schools that do not adhere to deadlines. Ties reaching the second replay stage may take place after the deadline.

If extra time is required in a knock-out competition it will operate experimentally on the golden goal/sudden death principle.

Parents' Trophy

The first soccer competition of the new season is the Parents' Association 5-a-side Trophy competition for Primary teams at Burnholme Community College and St Aelred's School.

Taking part are Appleton Roebuck, Clifton Without, Dringhouses, English Martyrs, Haxby Road, Headlands, Kingsway, Lakeside, Park Grove, Poppleton Road, Ralph Butterfield, Riverside, St Aelred's, St Barnabas, St Wilfrid's, Tang Hall, Wigginton, Woodthorpe.
