York City are heading east to get a test for their injured posse of players.

A behind closed doors friendly has been arranged for tomorrow against Grimsby Town at the Mariners' Blundell Park base. And that will aid the likes of central defender Tony Barras, midfielders Scott Jordan and Gary Himsworth, all battling back from injury, plus winger Rory Prendergast, now back in training after being involved in a car accident.

A decision on whether playmaker Steve Agnew will feature, however, will be delayed until the last minute said manager Alan Little.

He said: "They are all desperate for football and with no reserves game we approached Grimsby, who said they would play as long as it's over there. It will give them all a good run-out."

Little himself was going west tonight to take in the Manchester City clash at Maine Road against unbeaten Walsall. York visit surprise package Walsall next Tuesday.

Should the Manchester outfit prevail, then City's hold on tenth place in Division Two will be loosened with Joe Royle's men then having one more point than City.

But because of the postponement of the Reading game City and the Royals will have a game in hand over all their Division Two rivals.

Last night a brace of goals from Andy Cooke halted Burnley's run of three defeats when the Clarets toppled Millwall 2-1 at Turf Moor.

And Gillingham's new £600,000 signing Carl Asaba was on target for his new club with the last goal in a 4-0 walloping of Wrexham, while Blackpool pinched a point in a 1-1 draw at second-placed Bournemouth.

Former York City ace Darren Williams has been forced by a groin injury to withdraw from the England under-21 squad for this Friday's European championship clash against Sweden.

Fans who had booked to travel on the City supporters' club coach to Reading are asked to call at Bootham Crescent to get their money back.

The first Junior Reds Club meeting of the season is at Bootham Crescent tonight, at 6pm in the Family Room.
