Mick Wadsworth today refused to use Scarborough's financial woes as an excuse for his worst start to a season as a manager.

The Boro boss declared that four defeats from five Third Division games were the responsibility of himself and the players.

But Wadsworth, who saw proposed signing Andy Saville slip through his fingers this week, backed his squad to pull the season round, starting at Cambridge United tomorrow.

"You can't sit and mope about things. Myself and the players are the ones who can affect things and we have got to do it quickly," he said.

Wadsworth named an unchanged team from Monday's 2-1 defeat by Brighton.

'Keeper Kevin Martin has suffered a new injury blow. Martin is working his way back from a cruciate knee ligament injury but was today receiving a scan for a similar problem in his other knee.

Meanwhile, chief executive Dave Cusack has apologised to Cardiff City for the Saville saga.

The £20,000 transfer was held up over a registration hitch but Cusack said: "We had to pull out on the advice of our financial advisors, because of pressing liabilities at the club.

"These liabilities will be overcome but in the short term it is important we get the situation right here. My feelings go out to the manager and the player, it has been a blow to both of them."
