On October 5, I became hopelessly lost following a hearse and funeral cortege from the Church at Sutton-on-the-Forest, heading as I know now to Bishopthorpe Crematorium.

In the village of New Earswick, I asked direction after flagging down a car. The young woman driver offered to lead me there.

Her words 'You will never find it otherwise' were so true. In her white N-reg car (my only identification) she led me for what seemed miles to the Crematorium.

I had known we (a chief mourner and myself) would never arrive in time but we were able to link up with the rest of the funeral party.

I would like to attempt to thank this women for giving up her time and petrol and also for the very caring attitude she showed to me. I thank you for your assistance in this matter and if my wonderful helper reads this, perhaps she will get in touch.
