So Tony Blair feels that we have a model New Labour City Council in York, (Evening Press, November 24).

This is the council whose leader feels that losing 200 jobs is a triumph, planning issues are resolved in the council's favour, without public inquiries, and against the wishes of the local electorate.

Council Tax bills are set to rise above the level of inflation for the third year in a row with planned cuts in services and jobs. Council-employed museum staff go on strike over one of the busiest weekends in the year, council staff are demonstrating in the street and are threatening strike action over pay and conditions, while wasting hundreds of thousands of pounds on New Labour propaganda such as the Citizen and Neighbourhood Forums.

If this is how Tony Blair sees a model council, I am glad that we still have the ability to remove these model councils every four years.
