In the United Kingdom the Euro is foreign currency, as are US dollars, French francs and all others.
Could your reporter Sam Greenhill, (Evening Press, February 27), have gone shopping with a fistful of rouble or yen travellers cheques? Not in York! If and when the UK becomes part of the European Monetary Union then try the gimmick again.
P Gibson,
Deepdale,
...Oh Yes Eu Can! In his article A Fistful of Euros! Sam Greenhill stated: "Even Whigmaleeries, the Scottish paraphernalia shop on Stonegate, refused to be Euro-frendly." There must have been a misunderstanding. As a business which prides itself on its local, national and international customer base, Whigmaleeries is happy to accept payment in virtually any currency, Euro included. If Sam Greenhill cares to make a return visit to Whigmaleeries with his fistful of Euros, I can assure him that they would be good - not bad nor ugly.
EU're more than welcome!
Paul Ryan,
Manager,
Whigmaleeries Limited,
Stonegate,
York.
