A new safety study used by Yorkshire Electricity's Education and Media team, to teach young people about electrical safety, has scooped a gold medal at the New York Festival's Film Awards.

Electric Detective won the accolade in the Safety and First Aid category at the festival. It had been produced by Understanding Electricity, the Electricity Association's education service, of which Yorkshire Electricity is an active member.

The winning video, Electric Detective, features a character called Max Wattage and is used by Ann Walker and Karen Cutts, from Yorkshire Electrcity, when giving safety presentations to schools across the region.

"Max is a street-wise rapper who uses natural appeal and 'magical' powers to highlight potential electrical hazards in and around the home," explained Ms Walker.

Teachers can obtain a free copy of any of the safety videos, or make arrangements for a school safety presentation by calling Ms Walker on 01482 495631, or Ms Cutts on 0113 2415808.
