Modern Davids stand little chance against the corporate Goliaths. As soon as an individual aims his slingshot, Goliath's team of highly-paid lawyers issue a writ claiming threatening behaviour.

Not so long ago, a York-run web site poking fun at the world's biggest football club was forced to close by Manchester United's lawyers. Now Tony Thomson, boss of York Brewery, is being forced to withdraw his Bud Bitter after a threat from Budweiser's legal representatives.

This is a little heavy handed. Bud Bitter is a spring beer carefully crafted according to Yorkshire brewing tradition. This little drop of ale would hardly be confused with the oceans of Budweiser. It seems Tony's brush with the giant brewery has left him with no Bud but a little wiser.
