Kieren Fallon who will be going all out this season to win the jockeys' championship for a third time, kicks off tomorrow at Doncaster's opening meeting with five rides - and the chance of making an instant impression in the feature race.

Fallon has been booked by Sussex trainer John Dunlop to partner Generous Libra in the £20,000 Doncaster Mile, and this smart five-year-old has excellent prospects of obliging.

Generous Libra enjoyed a useful campaign last year, winding up with a notable victory over his full brother Generous Rosi in a Listed race over tomorrow's distance of a mile at Newmarket in October.

The five-year-old faces a searching test against Ramooz, a tough and admirably consistent campaigner at this level, but with Fallon in the saddle, Generous Libra is fancied to come out on top.

Fallon will be aboard Night Shot for Ian Balding in the £25,000 Tote Showcase Handicap over five furlongs, but preference is for Dil, who earns himself the nap vote.

Trained at Melton Mowbray by Norma Macauley, a lady who has a wonderful record with sprinters, Dil scored twice over this course and distance last season. He warmed up for this contest with a pipe-opener at Southwell a fortnight ago, which resulted in an impressive pillar-to-post success.

Macauley revealed after that race that Dil had had only one gallop beforehand, so it goes without saying that considerable further improvement is likely to have taken place since. A very speedy horse, who relishes a good ground he will get tomorrow, Dil is strongly fancied to show his rivals a clean pair of heels.

Jack Berry, in his final year as a trainer before handing over to his assistant son Alan, will be extra keen to enjoy a bumper season. And the popular Cockerham handler will have plenty of supporters in the Brocklesby Conditions Stakes - the first juvenile event of the year - in which he saddles Paris Star.

Berry, whose reputation has been built on the back of his ability to prepare two year olds, has been very pleased with Paris Star's homework. Significantly, this colt is a son of Paris House, one of Berry's former stable stars.

Sheriff Hutton based Kevin Darley has the mount tomorrow.

Swift, who has been in such good form on the sand, will lack nothing in fitness as he bids for a hat trick of wins in the Spring Apprentice Handicap. In addition the five year old has an experienced rider in Neil Pollard, who really came to the fore last season.

Emma Ramsden has such a good record in lady amateur races that whatever she rides tends to have good prospects. Tomorrow, she has been booked by Neville Callaghan to partner the fit-from-hurdling Iron Mountain in the Golden Boots Lady Riders' Handicap and the hint should be taken.
