I have long since felt that your columnist Turpin Rides Again is a positive embarrassment to your good name. I just cannot understand why you allow such drivel into Saturday's Evening Press.

However, his comments about 'lines of pensioners with wrinkled stockings' (Turpin, April 24) is an insult to those people in the senior age bracket.

In my experience the older people in this country are mostly smart, clean and tidy in appearance.

This is because they were brought up that way and old habits die hard.

Is Turpin so out of touch that he doesn't know that most ladies wear tights anyway? I say, get rid of Turpin and give the page over to some of the seniors. Bryan Marlowe is doing an excellent job.
