May we bring to the attention of your readers the Concert For Kosovo to be presented on Friday at the Grand Opera House by York Opera and the York Railway Institute (Senior) Band? Our two organisations felt compelled to respond to the Evening Press appeal for humanitarian aid for the refugees from Kosovo.

We offer an evening of musical entertainment of great variety and we have obtained the support of several organisations - the Evening Press among them -- who have donated advertising, printing and rehearsal facilities. The Opera House itself is being made available to us at a greatly reduced rate and all the performers are donating their services.

York Opera's contribution will include well-known operatic choruses and solos, selections from Gilbert and Sullivan and from musical shows. York RI Band will be presenting traditional items, swing numbers, pieces from musicals and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No 4. The two groups will unite in Roy Newsome's arrangement of the Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana to end the evening.

If we sell all the seats we shall make several thousand pounds for the Appeal. Please help us to do this and have a great evening into the bargain. Tickets are available from the Grand Opera House now.
