York District Hospital has a great need for a larger car park. Anyone who disagrees cannot, at any time, have had to drive around several times looking for somewhere to park, and while doing so having to think about a relative dying in a ward. I refer to Ernest Rudd's letter (May 3).
The way to police all parking at the hospital and stop any person abusing it, like those we saw park and then go shopping into the city, would be to give any person who can prove to the porters at reception that they have been to visit a relative or friend, a token to open the barrier of the car park. Those who do not have a good reason to be within the park should have to pay £10 to gain access out.
This is one of the ways St James' Hospital in Leeds uses to reduce abuse of its car parks.
