A Total of 400 runners enjoyed superb sunshine to compete in the 15th Annual Wigginton Road Races over 3k, 5k and 10k distances. The 10k race was won by D Cooney (Rotherham) in 30min 57sec, ahead of A Shepherd (Morpeth) in 32.17. Third was S O'Grady (New Marske Harriers) 32.52, fourth M Smith (Spenborough) 33.31, and fifth P Wragg (Thirsk) 33.34.
The first female was L Mawer (Bingley), who completed a Yorkshire double in 37min 9sec. She came home from M McDonnell (Saltwell) in 38.41, and third was A Wrigglesworth (Knavesmire) 42.13.
Bob Duncan (Nestl Rowntree) won the M40 prize in 34min dead. Other category winners were - S Moss (Spenborough) O/50 in 38.08 and G Calvert 0/60 39.54. O/35 female S Garrod (Goole) 38.50, 0/45 female P Fenelan (Goole) 43.32. O/55 female H Morath (Abbey RR) 48.37.
Male team (Nestl Rowntree) - Duncan/Lancaster/Young. Female Team (Knavesmire Harriers) - Wrigglesworth/Boynton/Mackley.
