England's Rose, a filly named in fond remembrance of Princess Diana, can win her first race at Beverley tomorrow.

Trained at Newmarket by Henry Cecil and the mount of Kieren Fallon, the three-year-old runs in the Kings Head Maiden Fillies' Stakes and is strongly fancied to open her winning account.

Unraced last season, England's Rose made her debut at Lingfield earlier this month and finished second to Evergreen Venture after meeting trouble in running.

Sure to have benefited considerably from that experience, England's Rose should be capable of lifting this modest prize.

Following Night Of Glass tends to prove a frustrating exercise, but Les Eyre's charge is entitled to one more chance in the Happy Birthday Eddie Moll Rated Handicap.

A horse who needs to be covered up and produced late, Night Of Glass finished third in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster, fifth in the Victoria Cup at Ascot and third again at York last time behind Sugarfoot.

On each of those occasions things have not gone quite right for him, but he does tend to be a horse who seems to contribute to his own problems.

There can be little doubt that Night Of Glass has the ability to win tomorrow's contest, and for that reason he is given the nod. But whether he will once again have an 'unlucky' near-miss remains to be seen. Bets should be kept to a minimum.

Frankie Dettori travels north to team-up with Victory Spin in the Conservative Club Maiden Stakes, and looks likely to enjoy a winner.

Trained by Luca Cumani, Victory Spin showed bags of promise on his only outing last season, when finishing second.

This looks an ideal opportunity for him to break his duck before going on to bigger and better things.

Dettori has also been snapped-up by Neville Callaghan to partner the previously unraced Princess Victoria in the Horse And Hound Selling Stakes.

At Lingfield, China Red will take plenty of catching in the £10,000 Coral Showcase Handicap.

John Hills' gelding, a very creditable third to Bomb Alaska at Goodwood last week, had previously scored over this course and distance, clearly showing a liking for the all-weather surface. He can successfully adopt his front-running tactics again tomorrow and is awarded the nap vote.

With Jimmy Fortune riding in such fine form, fans of the jockey would do well to take note of his mounts at Lingfield.

Fortune, who is making a big impression in the south after moving from his Thirsk base early this year, has good prospects on Opera Buff (2pm) and Such Boldness (4.30), both trained on the course by Gay Kelleway.
