He may not be the next David Seaman, but Trebor Bassett goalie Mark Blades is obviously made of the Right Stuff.
Despite conceding 38 goals in his team's drubbing by Leeman Athletic, he still walked off with the man-of-the-match award. "It could have been 50 if it wasn't for him," admitted Trebor manager Mick Sorrell. The game was the heaviest-ever defeat recorded in the York Sunday Afternoon League's history: but to be fair Trebor were able to field only nine men.
"You had to laugh in the end," Mark admitted. "After the first ten minutes we were doing all right, but I lost interest at 25."
He has pledged that 'life goes on.' Clearly, he's able to draw upon deep reserves of optimism. But then he has to... he is a York City supporter.
