Rossel, who shaped well on the Flat at Hamilton last week when returning from a summer break, switches to fences at Carlisle tomorrow and is fancied to come up trumps in the hands of smart young rider Liam Cooper.

Trained by Peter Montieth, Rossel lines-up for the City of Carlisle Handicap Chase, which looks a suitable opening for this versatile gelding.

Not only has he won on the Flat, Rossel has also won over fences and hurdles, and notched a brace of victories over the minor obstacles on this course last season.

While he is handicapped to the hilt over hurdles, Rossel is significantly rated 16lb lower over fences. Fit and fresh, he can exploit that advantage tomorrow.

Malcolm Jefferson, who opened his winning account for the season at Southwell on Monday, can follow-up with Wellswood in the Durdar Novices' Chase.

Norton-based Jefferson reports his string in good shape as the season begins to get into gear.

Wellswood, a winning hurdler last season, has the ideal credentials to make a mark for himself over fences. With Graham Lee in the saddle, the six-year-old should not be ignored on his trainers' home course.

Nicky Richards landed the NatWest Handicap Chase 12 months ago with Better Times Ahead and the Greystoke handler can gain a repeat victor tomorrow with Committed Schedule.

Tony Dobbin takes the mount on this bold-jumping eight-year-old, who seems sure to have benefited from his recent fourth-placed effort at Perth on his first outing of the campaign.

Tarporley trainer Alan Bailey can do no wrong at present and can land the Shap Juvenile Novices' Hurdle with Mytton's Moment, who has taken well to jumping. Steve Wynne has the mount.

Recent Sedgefield winner Leading Note has good prospects of defying a penalty in the Harraby Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

The tough and consistent Tui looks sure to go well in the Orton Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle, especially with the accomplished Liam Cummins in the saddle.

Tomorrow's only Flat racing is at Lingfield, where Adrian Nicholls, who was on the mark aboard Ambitious at York yesterday, can follow-up on Nap selection Mr Stylish in the Come Racing at Lingfield Handicap.

Trained by the in-form Ian Balding, Mr Stylish has been running consistently well in defeat recently and is overdue a win.

In the £10,000 Tote Trifecta Showcase Handicap Zariliya can oblige for Sir Michael Stoute and John Reid. This lightly raced three-year-old got off the mark at Musselburgh, travelling strongly throughout the race, but in the end scrambling home by only a short head from Romola. Reid will hold him for a late run tomorrow.
