York & District Netball League began its 1999/2000 season with a record number of teams entering the league and a new fifth division being created to accommodate seven new teams.

Haxby Netball Club, entering a sixth team for the first time in their history, gained a total of 20 points from a possible 24 in their first week of the campaign.

Team 1 gained one point from their match with Ladybirds 'A', going down 27-37. Also in the first division Haxby 2 gained a valuable four points when they beat Kroy 'A' 42-36 in a well fought match which saw some excellent shooting by Gemma Grant and Faye Milner for Haxby and Julie Mawtus and Louise Winn for the visitors.

In Division 2, Haxby 3 had a strong lead over rivals Copmanthorpe but Jill Smith and Lynda Withers put up some brilliant shots in the last quarter and the match ended in a 31 all draw and three points each.

Haxby 4 gained a maximum four points by overcoming Dringhouses 'A' 30-20.

On a wet and windy Friday evening Haxby 5 travelled to Easingwold to face a team who had beaten them twice last season. Haxby's new combination of shooters, Heather King and Joanne Wreglesworth, played well together collecting every rebound in the last quarter and overhauling the home team to finish with a 33-29 victory.

Haxby met Easingwold for the second time but in the newly created Division 5 when Haxby 6 took on Easingwold 'B'.

The two new teams battled hard, but Haxby began to pull ahead. The third and fourth quarter saw them increase their lead with another good shooting combination of Tracy Mounter and Joanne Phillips for a final score of 40-24 to Haxby.
