York-based teenage ace Andy Haskins is in with a shout of wearing England's three lions shirt at York City's ground.

Canon Lee School pupil Haskins has been named in the England Under-15 squad for their Adidas Victory Shield match against Northern Ireland at Bootham Crescent a week tonight.

Haskins, a midfielder, is on the books of Nottingham Forest.

He and the rest of the squad, will be aiming to make the sort of progress shown by such previous Under-15 England luminaries such as Michael Owen, Jamie Redknapp, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Shilton and Sir Bobby Charlton.

Indeed, in the last international game at City's headquarters Owen bagged all four goals in England's 4-0 mauling of Northern Ireland just three years ago.

Less than two years later the Liverpool striker was scoring that sensational goal in the World Cup finals in France against Argentina.

Said current England under-15s coach Dick Bate: "Some of England's most famous footballers have progressed through the ranks from the Under-15s' squad to representing their country in the senior squad.

"The game promises to be an exciting fixture and we are hoping to attract a big crowd to give them the support they deserve."

The game on Friday, October 15, kicks off at 8.05pm. Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and free for children, though all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Fans can apply for tickets by calling the hot-line number tel York 624447 extension 1.
