SHIELD SUCCESSES: Daniel Harrison, York's Under 7 team captain and Ross White, the Under 11 skipper with the trophies they won at the Morley Festival

York Rugby Union Club's Under-10s and U7s pulled off a double triumph at the Morley Festival.

The Under-10s had won at U9 level last year, and the Yorkshire champions won again to get York's name on the U10 trophy for the first time.

York played Pocklington in the first match and slick handling and forward power saw them win 10-0 with tries from Oliver Hawking and Jonathan Frank.

In the second game York met hosts Morley and dominated throughout. But York were only able to manage one score for a 5-0 win when strong running from Leigh took him to the line.

York kept their defensive record intact as they beat Old Brodlienians in the third game 10-0. As in the first game it was the combination of Hawking and Frank that notched the two tries for York.

The final match saw York meet Leicester club Barker Butts and scored two tries through William Simpson and Andy Fraser.

Butts breached York's defence for the first time to bring the score back to 10-5, but strong tackling by Harrison, White, Milligan and Maud saw York hang on for victory.

York also won the trophy at the festival at Under-7 level for the first time, and they also won all four games.

The youngsters overcame Barkers Butts by six tries to three, Pocklington 4-3, Old Brodlians 6-3 and Morley 6-5 to secure the Ben Habergham Trophy.

All 12 players in the squad played their part but Daniel Harrison, Jack Maud and Adam Johnson had more reason to celebrate than most having been members of the squad during the previous two seasons.

In a nail-biting finale against Morley, Harrison ran in five tries for York taking his festival total to 11.

Johnson and Maud weighed in with five each during the tournament and Lee Walker scored his first try for the club.
