Evening Press Reader's Letter

It's that time of year again, dark mornings and evenings, and driving standards seem to get worse each year.

On several mornings recently while it has still been virtually dark, I have passed cars coming in the opposite direction on Stockton Lane (which is unlit) with no lights on. Added to this, drivers insist on driving about a yard from your back bumper because you are sticking to the speed limit and they are unable to pass.

One driver last week managed to pass me within 100 metres of the Hopgrove junction with the main road and then proceeded to pull directly out on to the main road just missing an oncoming van. That driver had no respect for other road users and could easily have caused three accidents within 150 meters. Most drivers when behaving badly seem oblivious to the problems and anguish they cause.

The answer to this problem? Well, I wish I had one. More instant bans to take more of these people off the road? Less powerful cars, more road calming? What do Evening Press readers think?
