A goalkeeping blunder undid Scarborough as the Seasiders slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Natiowide Conference strugglers Welling United.

Scarborough, who welcome a Manchester United side to the McCain Stadium for a friendly on Thursday and had new £50,000 signing Paul Ellender making his debut on Saturday, looked to have their minds on other matters in a dreadful start that killed the game off.

However, the Seasiders' high hopes were brought down to reality after falling behind to two goals inside the first half-an-hour.

Their troubles started when goalkeeper Andy Woods dropped a clanger and the ball from Kevin Dennis's corner and Steve Watts, on loan from Leyton Orient, fired Welling into the lead.

It was soon 2-0 when Dennis beat Woods with a 25-yard drive and it seemed game set and match for Welling.

Boro battled back, however when impish forward Steve Brodie headed a goal back on half-time after a cross from Steve Betts.

But the damage had already been done and the Seasiders never really looked like levelling the tie.

Towering striker Andy Morris summed up Scarborough's troubles oin front of goal when he headed Brodie's corner wide when it looked easier to score.

Scarborough manager Colin Addison has vowed to step up his search for new players this week, with a striker top of his Christmas shopping list.

Brodie is due to feature in an England trial match for an FA Xl against a UniBond League side at Stalybridge Celtic tonight, kick-off 7.30pm.

Former York City midfielder Mark Atkins put new club Doncaster Rovers in front against Stevenage Borough at Belle Vue. But two goals in the last seven minutes saw Stevenage take all the points.
