A millennium to get your teeth into: Lois Walker, centre, shows her cake to business assistant Richard Walker and Business Link adviser Marian Hodgeson

Baker Lois Walker, of Ripon, has discovered a market for those who like a bit of dome cooking.

Her millennium dome cakes created at her three-year-old Lois' Bakery in Westgate, Ripon, rise quickly to the occasion and sell like - well... hotcakes.

The chocolate cakes are all part of an attitude of innovation she is being encouraged to take by Business Link North Yorkshire.

Lois says: "Business Link was very proactive and contacted my mum who was working here and asked if I wanted any assistance.

"She fixed an appointment but I wasn't too keen - I was expecting a stuffy civil servant but they have been dynamic and practical and have helped me become a business person as well as a baker."

Lois's Business Link adviser, Marian Hodgeson, said: "The cakes are a great idea which demonstrates that the right product will always sell well."
