The last full moon of the Millennium sets over York early today. This awesome lunar display was the most dazzling for years thanks to a rare combination of events which led to it being 14 per cent bigger and seven per cent brighter than normal.

The phenomenon was created by the moon being at its closest point to the earth, the sun shining on it and the fact that yesterday was the shortest day of the year.

With a little digital manipulation by Paul Baker, Martin Oates and Elaine Brown, the moon was caught setting behind York Magistrates court.
