Heworth 'A' completed the expected double over their 'B' team with a repeat 6-1 victory and opened a four point lead at the top of York Conservative clubs' Joshua Tetley Snooker League.

The 'A' team winners were Richie Burdett (38 break), Steve Burdett, Jason Milner, Dave Taylor, Clive Whyte and Neil Wood (39 break).

Huw Faircliffe was the 'B' team's only winner, beating 'A' team captain Keith Lawrence for the second time this season.

Bootham 'A' stay in second place despite a surprise defeat 4-3 by Bootham 'B'.

Jeff Brown, Ian Robinson and Ray Stamp, who recovered from needing two snookers, won the first three frames for the 'B' team, but Brian Coulson, Barry Rankin and Ken Taylor levelled the match.

However, Chris Granger won the match for the 'B' team by inflicting the first defeat on Peter Mills to take the decisive last frame.

The match between the Acomb teams see-sawed as each team took alternative frames until Gerald Mackenzie secured the last frame to give the 'A' team a 4-3 win.

Their other winners were Paul Clark, Ian Gillies and Richard Harris. Ken Bowser, Phil Carlton and Steve Rodgers won for the 'B' team.

Fulford 'A' had a comfortable 5-2 success against their 'B' team to replace them in fifth place.

Simon England, Colin Neal, Wayne Puleston, Alan Reed and Richard Stroughair won for the 'A' team with replies by Robert Plant and George Toone.

Acomb made it four wins in a row as they hammered Fulford 6-1 and opened up a five-point gap as league leaders in the York Conservative clubs' Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League.

Acomb have beaten Fulford in each of their three matches this season and accumulated 16 points out of their total of 30.

Bootham held on to second place despite suffering a surprise 5-2 defeat by Heworth.

Acomb must have been pleased when Bootham 'B' team's last two players failed to turn up in the York Conservative clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League.

The match was delicately poised at the time with each team having won two games and Acomb only six points ahead on aggregate.

As a result of the two walkovers Acomb recorded a 5-2 victory over the only team to have beaten them this season.

John Hutchinson and Bob Ventress won for Acomb and Tim Fillingham and Chris Granger replied for Bootham 'B'.

Fulford defeated Bootham 'A' 5-2 to replace Bootham 'B' in second place and keep Acomb's lead at 14 points.

Brian Bickerstaffe, Robert Plant, Wayne Puleston and Alan Reed (who defeated Ken Taylor despite Ken's 49 break) won for Fulford.

Eric Darley (27 break) and John Darley won for Bootham 'A', who are six points adrift at the bottom of the league.
