York 'Rugby Union Club 'A' team let slip a 17-7 lead against Wheatley Hills, eventually losing 20-17.

Adie Martin, Simon Thornton and Ed Ramos, Buck Rogers and Sam Arkle all put in excellent early tackles for York but

Wheatley's pressure told when an awkward kick spun well clear of York's defence and behind their posts for No 8 Dick Richards to win the race to the touchdown. Ashman added a straightforward conversion.

York then started to run the ball at their visitors and centre Mark Haley dived over to score and Richard Sawyer's kick levelled the scores.

Two minutes later superb three-quarter play saw Arkle feed Adam Smith, who beat the back row cover before feeding Mick Parsonage. Two passes later, Smith fed the ball to Parsonage, who flew in-field to score behind the posts. Sawyer added the conversion.

Ten minutes later York looked to have won as Sawyer punished a Wheatley Hills scrum offence and slotted over a 35 yard penalty to go 17-7 up.

However, a converted try got the Doncaster team back in touch and five minutes later Ashman levelled the scores when he stroked over a penalty and with only 30 seconds left on the referee's watch, he repeated the effort to snatch victory.

Argentinian side Club Atletico Iridso beat York's Under 19 Colts 18-7 on the opening game of their European tour.

Matthew Wright dominated the line-outs for York and the delivery to the backs was often well used.

The tourists' scored three tries and a penalty but York began to dictate in the second half.

Captain Nick Ventress sold a perfect dummy to his opposite fly-half and created enough room to slip through under the posts for York's try before converting with a nonchalant drop kick.

York's man-of-the-match was prop Peter Murphy.

York Colts got back to winning ways by beating Leeds 15-12 on a muddy pitch.

Two great tries by winger Kris McDermott were the highlight for York but the most outstanding player was flanker Chris Nulty, who was in the right place to support Adam Thomson twice in a fine run on the wing to touch down for York's third try.

Selby Under 15s started their game with Hull Ionians Under 15s with a full complement of players for only the second time this season - and stormed to a 36-7 victory.

The match was at times scrappy and undisciplined, but fine tries by Taylor (3), David Makin (2) and Marshall, along with a conversion each for Elliott and Hopkins, gave Selby - for whom Brooke, debutant Ian Herbert and Stephenson were excellent in the front row - the win. Hull scored a converted consolation try late on.
