More than 200 people turned out and helped to make the day a huge success.

"The feedback we've had has been positive, it seems everyone had an excellent day", said Shirley Duff, head of the centre.

Computing, language lessons and cookery were just some of the other classes on offer.

"We wanted to give people a chance to try courses before committing," continued Shirley.

"Web site design classes were extremely popular, and we also run computing classes for beginners. Over 30 per cent of people were over 60, who often feel left behind in our computer society, and want to keep up with their grandchildren. Some of our students are in their 80s!"

Returning mums were also looking for qualifications to get back in the workplace. "We were pleased that 33 per cent of people who came had never been to adult education classes before, because we aimed to reach them," said Shirley.
