Three adults and three children have appeared before York magistrates accused of raiding a Selby post office.

All six were reappearing today after a night in police custody.

A seventh person, Sonia Peonaru, 20, of Chinchen Close, Slough, was bailed to attend the court but did not do so. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

All seven are charged with burgling a branch post office at Londis General Store in Brook Street, Selby, on Friday, February 11, and stealing £2,300 in cash.

A Romanian-English interpreter translated for the defendants during the short hearing.

The three youngest were aged of 14, 15 and 16.

The three adults were Ileana Caldararu, 23, Ionut Caldararu, 24, and Elena Ionescu, 22. No addresses were given to the court, but they are believed to be living in the south of England.

Their solicitor Craig Robertson made no application for bail.

The seven were arrested on Friday following an incident at the post office and have been held in police cells since.
