Work has begun on the construction of a £3 million steel production line and already it has begun to make its mark on the countryside on the outskirts of Thirsk.

The project is by - and for - Severfield-Reeve Structures and the 70,000 sq ft computer-controlled highly automated production line is being built on a 12-week fast-track programme so that it can be up and running by next month. Already five extra staff have been taken on, bringing the total of production workers to about 165 and five more will be employed on completion. A further 100 work in the company's offices nearby.

The facility, known as "production line 5" will increase weekly output of prefabricated structural steel from the Dalton factory from 1,100 tonnes to 1,400 tonnes, enhancing the site's position as the largest single production facility for structural steelwork in Europe.
