Young York Wasps prop Mick Hagan could be facing Challenge Cup heartache after tearing a calf muscle in Sunday's victory over Thornhill.

WORRY: Mick Hagan

The 21-year-old is definitely out of this weekend's Northern Ford Premiership clash at Hull KR as a result of the injury to his right leg.

And with the initial prognosis suggesting he will be out for two to six weeks he could also miss the fifth round trip to Super League Warrington Wolves the following week.

Hagan, who was helped from the field in the first half against Thornhill, expects to find out more about his chances this week.

Fellow front row man Rich Hayes is rated at 50-50 to face Rovers at Craven Park on Sunday. Hayes missed the victory over Thornhill with a hamstring strain but the injury has been responding to treatment.

Another man in the wars in Sunday's bruising battle was stand-off Mark Cain. He was forced off into the blood-bin after catching an elbow which split his bottom lip and, although he returned after 10 minutes, he went to straight to hospital after the game.

Wasps coach Dean Robinson may be tempted to switch his back division around as he looks for a way to contain Rovers' explosive back line.

He hinted that he may alter the half-back combination once again which could see Garry Atkins, deployed at scrum-half on Sunday, changing positions once again.

But his biggest concerns are in the three-quarters. He believes the Robins' centre pairing of Rob Nolan and Whetu Taewa is the strongest in the division - and claims Nolan could have been in a York shirt on Sunday.

"I wanted to sign Rob when he was at Hull and he was more than happy to come to York but we were outbid by Hull KR.

"If we had got the funding from Jamie Benn's transfer to Castleford we would have been successful in getting him," said Robinson, referring to York's failure to secure any money from Benn's move to Wheldon Road.

Robinson said that had York offered Benn a contract equal to or above his previous deal they could then have commanded a fee from Castleford but instead they allowed him to gain free agency status.

That has upset the Wasps boss who said: "I think we could have got £6-10,000 for him because of the way the transfer market has gone. We sorely needed those funds or sponsorship but without either it's left us short of money to strengthen the squad.."

Now he is hoping that extra revenue will come from the potentially money-spinning tie at Warrington, who are expecting a crowd of around 5,000.
