The battle of the York University ladies teams saw the Staff team beat the Students 5-4 in ladies division two of York Badminton League.

Sally Locker and Lynne Terry put in the match-winning display with three wins for 127-81, including a 15-8 15-17 15-13 win over Sue Cooper and Zoe Conway.

Ian Turner and Jeff Whittaker took three straight wins for 92-48 as Rowntree beat RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' 8-1 in their men's division one match at the Haxby Road gym.

Mike Corley and Peter Saxton of RI scored a 15-7 9-15 15-6 win over John Emptage and Steve Andrews.

Drax 'A' scored an excellent 7-2 home win over Students 'A' in men's division one.

Phil Brunyard and Andrew Neal recorded the only maximum for a return of 104-63, including a 15-2 12-15 15-11 win over Michael Jones and Paul Capewell, who took both student points.

Selby Jubilee won 7-2 at Bubwith. Andy Hatfield and Roy Cannon top scored for Jubilee with three straight wins for 90-20.

Clifton 'A' scored a 5-4 away win over Rowntree 'B' in mixed division one.

Jeff Whittaker and Brenda Drummond scored three Rowntree victories but Clifton's Richard Mackintosh and Ronnie Davison took the win bonus points with seven and four over Steve Andrew and Shelley Tatterton.

Drax 'A' were good value for their 7-2 home win over Selby 77 'A' in mixed division one. Phil Brunyard and Julie Smythe took the best Drax return with three wins for 90-36.

Millthorpe 'A' lost 4-5 at Drax 'B' and 2-7 at Clifton 'C', then sprang a major surprise to win 5-4 at Riverside.

The best Millthorpe display came from Keith Burrows and Anne Casper, who took maximums in the matches against Drax and Riverside for a two-match return of 222-177.

Phil Sinton and Gill Mackintosh top-scored for Clifton 'C' with three wins for 90-24, including a five and five win over Casper and Burrows.

Huntington 'A' won 6-3 at home to Clifton 'C' in mixed division two. Clifton, who were a pairing short, played well with Mel Knowles and Graham Lockwood scoring two wins. Paul Moisley and Ange Hobman took two wins including four and eight over Knowles and Lockwood.

Easingwold scored a hard fought 5-4 away win over Drax 'C' in mixed division three. Linda and Robert Sallinson capped an excellent display by taking the seventh rubber and completing their maximum with a four and 13 win over Ken Walker and Sue Reed.

Drax 'C' bounced back in their next match with a 7-2 away win over Millthorpe 'B'.

Richard Course and Pat Gregory put in an excellent Drax display culminating in three straight wins for 92-53.

Selby 77 'B' scored a last rubber 5-4 win over Market Weighton in mixed division four.

Francis Harrison and Alan Halmshaw took three Weighton wins for a total of 90-39. Selby hit back to claim the final rubber after Jenny and Dave Barker had beaten Mandy Levitt and Paul Goddard 12-15 15-12 15-5.
