Reader's letter

Contrary to W Kettlestring's understanding (Letters, March 4), the plans of architects PRP for the new Osbaldwick development do allow traffic to flow across the site.

Their masterplan report states: "Internal layout has been designed to permit cross flow of vehicles". This was confirmed by the PRP representative at the recent public exhibition who, when pressed, conceded that "yes it would be possible to travel by car across the site".

My letter (February 28) was in support of residents who appear to be "informed of the facts" and concerned that these routes will become rat-runs!

Coun W Hall from Osbaldwick draws attention to the shortcomings of the City of York Council planners but makes no mention of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation who are partners in this scheme. It is the council and the foundation who would have us believe that residents' opinions have been taken into account. This has not been the case.

Most residents voted for a plan that would take extra traffic away from all nearby streets. The results of the consultation exercise have so far been less than encouraging. It is difficult to see a way forward for this development if the planners are unable to address this concern.
