A number of York City Baths Club Swimmers were in fine form as they swam to 40 personal best long course times, many of these coming from the younger age groupers, in the Yorkshire County Age Group Championships at Leeds.

Eleven finalists produced three gold and four silver medals.

Robin Francis was the clear winner in the Men's 200m individual medley as he cruised home in two minutes 11.83 seconds which was 2.39 seconds below his best.

In the 100m freestyle Francis took the 'silver' behind Olympian Gavin Meadows of Leeds. Francis' time was a personal best of 53.20.

Alex Outhawaite was the winner in the girls 13 years 100m backstroke with a personal best time of 1:13.77 to carry on her success in winning the same event as a 12-year- old in 1999.

Fifteen-year-old Steven Fox was York's other gold medallist in winning the 100m backstroke in a 1:05.27. He was also seventh in the final of the 15 years 100m freestyle with a personal best of 58.99.

The ever improving, Tom Southam, swimming in the 14 years age group, secured two silver medals in the finals of the 100m butterfly, with a personal best time of 1:05.25, and the 200m individual medley, in 2:22.45.

Ten- year-old Alice Sunderland put up a great fight to secure second in the 50m freestyle with a personal best of 34.95.

York's other finalists were Anna Skillbeck in the 14 years 100m backstroke, setting a personal best time of 1:16.02 for fifth place; Lee Crouch, who dipped under 70 seconds for the first time, as he came home in sixth place in the 16 years boys 100m backstroke with a time of 1:09.91; and Sarah Kinnell, who was eighth in the 15 years breaststroke in a time of 1:24.57.
