Reader's letter

I was disappointed to learn that the new B&Q Warehouse on Hull Road will not be offering Over Sixties Club Diamond Card discounts on Wednesdays. When I asked about this at the B&Q Warehouse opening I was told many items stocked there would be on offer at prices significantly below those in their store at Clifton Moor.

Using the B&Q Warehouse mini-catalogue I have checked the prices against the same items offered by the store at Clifton Moor. In most cases the prices are exactly the same or close enough for the Clifton Moor price to be cheaper on a Wednesday for the over 60s using their ten per cent discount facility.

I spotted three examples where the Warehouse price was significantly cheaper. Surprisingly, in one case (Abru Aluval five-step ladders) the Clifton Moor store was £1 cheaper than the Warehouse.

My message to all B&Q Over Sixties Diamond Card holders is that, while the new warehouse does hold a much larger range of goods, they cannot use their discount card and, for a significant number of items, the price charged at Clifton Moor will be ten per cent cheaper on Wednesdays.

On this evidence, there appears to be no justification for the store's stand and perhaps the Over Sixties Club should mobilise in an attempt to persuade B&Q to offer Diamond Card discounts on Wednesday at their Hull Road store.
