A chanceless century for Stephen Towse saw Burythorpe start their defence of the Howarth Pulleyn Heselton Cup in style.

With Geoff Brewer 60, Phil Hill 40 and 28 from Paul Milner, Towse helped his side to a massive 286 for four at Woodhouse Grange.

Grange were bowled out for 124 as their last three wickets fell to Bobby Brewer, who claimed 3-26, for one run.

York Post Office were well beaten by a strong CGU side.

Batting first the Post Office got off to a disastrous start from which they never recovered and were all out for 35 - Keith Lawrence and Jon Cooper both took three wickets.

Brian Garnett led CGU to an eight wicket win as he notched an unbeaten 22.

Will Reynolds and David Mallory pulled Bishopthorpe back into the game following the loss of early wickets against Bury at Ferry Lane.

Mike Cunningham notched 44, but it was Stuart Drabble's explosive 35 from 31 balls, which included four sixes, that took them to 163-5 at tea.

Stuart Nesbitt held the Burn innings together with a well worked 69 until he became Derek Gardiner's 600th wicket for his club. Cunningham chipped in with four wickets as the Bishops ran out winners by 35 runs.

Also through to the first round are Thorpe Willoughby who had a comfortable win over Askham Bryan.

The College based side were all out for 101. Colin Garnett and Dave Milner top scoring. David Hargraves led the Thorpe victory march with an unbeaten 46.
