A TEAM of soldiers from York raced the sun in one of North Yorkshire's most gruelling races.
The soldiers, who all serve with 2 Signal Regiment based at Imphal Barracks, canoed, cycled, swam and ran 182 miles around North Yorkshire to raise money for local charities.
The day was split into a 15-stage relay involving a hill run up Sutton Bank, caneoing down the River Ouse, cycling uphill through Levisham and swimming across Castle Howard lake ... in a hailstorm.
The grand finale was a stretcher race carrying 40 kilogrammes involving all the teams at Imphal Barracks.
The winners were 11 Signal Brigade from Blandford, Dorset. York's 2 Signal Regiment were runners-up and 30 Signal Regiment from Bramcote, Nottinghamshire, came third.
Race the Sun has been run for the past 11 years, raising more than £82,000 for charity.
The aim of the day is to set off as the sun rises and to complete all the events before the sun sets.
The event was hosted and organised by 2 Signal Regiment.
