York's batsmen will be on their guard to make sure that Scarborough's massive Aussie opening bowler, Brad Wigney, does not get all his own way when the two local derby rivals meet in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League at Clifton Park tomorrow (12noon).

Wigney, who weighs in at 6'5" and sixteen and a half stones in his stocking feet, took York apart in both of last season's derby encounters taking 4-43 in the first meeting followed by 6-37 in 17 blistering overs last July.

Boro beat York (139-9 and 85 all out respectively) by six wickets in the first meeting and won by 66 runs to complete the home and away double.

Scarborough's ever popular off-spin stalwart, Chris Clifford the former Seamer school teacher, lent Wigney a hand from the other end taking 5-39 in the first encounter just over a year ago, but was not needed for the second meeting as Mark Wells and Rob Harrison shared the other four York wickets.

Marcus Wood and Greg How were the two York cricketers to emerge from the games with some semblance of respectability, left hander, Wood scoring 74 of York's total of 139-9 with How chipping in with an all-round performance of 3-21 and 35no topping the second.

A York University student and former Sussex U19 all-rounder, Ed Senneck, makes his Yorkshire League debut for York tomorrow after impressing with an innings of 92 against Sessay in the Costcutter Division One last Saturday.

Senneck, a left handed bat and off-spinner, takes the place of Shaun Gorman, who is unavailable.

York make two team changes for their trip to Appleby-Frodingham in the National Club Knock Out on Sunday, newcomer from Scarborough, Richard Gilbert taking the place of Nash Stone, the club's overseas all-rounder and Andrew Kay is brought in for Ben Quick who is busy with examinations.

Rounding off an action packed weekend York visit Driffield in the Yorkshire League on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mark Cowell, who scored a century for 'Boro against Sheffield Collegiate last Saturday is unavailable for the York game, Cowell's place being taken by Mark Wells, Chris Allen standing by in case a virus infection suffered by Gary Jones has not improved.

Boro travel to Whitburn on Sunday in the National Club KO with Philip Seed, home from University, taking the place of Wigney, who, as an overseas player is not eligible to play.

Cleethorpes are down to visit North Marine Road on Bank Holiday Monday, Cowell being named in Scarborough's line-up for that Yorkshire League game.

Heworth are forced to work for win

HEWORTH travelled to Driffield in the East Riding Sunday Cricket League and were involved in an excellent game.

Heworth set 144-9 thanks to Australian Nick Fisher, who made 39 and hit a superb six over the clubhouse.

Steve Winterbottom took 2-26 and David Warcup 2-15 for Driffield, but 144 looked a low score, however, Driffield were reduced to 11-3 with Nick Fisher bowling eight overs for ten runs.

Andrew Morfitt (23) and Steve Winterbottom (22) steadied the ship, but Heworth held some stunning catches. Grant Hutton made 30 at the end, but Heworth were winners by 25 runs as Driffield were all out for 119 runs.
