Three local cricketers have been called into the England squad for the Costcutter under-15 World Cricket Challenge.

The trio - Sheriff Hutton's Nick Thornicroft, James Chervak of Harrogate and Fadmoor's Dan Broadbent - are among seven Yorkshire players called into England's 24-strong squad announced for the tournament that will open at Lord's on July 29 and culminate with the final at the same venue on Thursday, August 18.

Thornicroft has been a loyal servant at Sheriff Hutton and first played for the side at under-12 level and is seeking to emulate his sporting hero Darren Gough.

Chervak started out at seven years and was playing for Harrogate by the age of 10.

He took part in the English Schools under-13 final in 1998 at Taunton.

Broadbent also began playing at seven and was on the winning side as Yorkshire beat Somerset in the 1999 English Schools County Championship. He has always won the under-15 Yorkshire Schools bowling award and is currently contracted to Yorkshire County Cricket Club on a two-year scholarship.

The quartet of other Yorkshire players in the squad are Tim Bresnan (Castleford), Andrew Parkin-Coates (Doncaster), David Stiff (Batley) and David Wainwright (Hemsworth).
