CARLTON Towers bounced back after losing their unbeaten second division record on Saturday to beat Clifton Alliance by 118 runs.

Towers bowler Paul Wright clean bowled eight victims to register 8 for 33 to shoot out the hosts for 78.

Earlier, former Selby player Peter Hoyle had made 68, Mark Graves 49 and Stuart Coleman 26 as John Bladen preceeded his 29 with 3 for 14.

Harrogate's Miles Rawlings hit an unbeaten 61 to steer his side to a 5 wicket win over Rowntrees which moved the St George's Road side into third place. Nick Sedgwick recovered batting form to make 45 for the Nestle side while Shaun Marshall added 26 in a total of 142-7. Dan Longhurst presented some problems in taking 4 for 40.

In reply, Richard Hutchinson made 29 before Rawlings took control.

Bubwith's batsmen flourished when they hit 184-7 off the Castleford attack in only 36 overs. There were useful contributions from Brian Last 28, Gary Wilson 27 and Edward Smith 28 as Gary O'Neill took 3-85.

When Castleford replied their under 17 batting star Nick Bresnan made 37 to add to his impressive scores so far, but he lacked support and his side's innings closed at 138-8.

Hovingham had made 89-6 against Woodhouse Grange when the rain intervened while the games at Bridlington and Osbaldwick were not started due to waterlogged grounds.

Only one game was completed in division three, a closely fought draw at Selby where visiting Heworth were marginally the better side. Robert Love hit 60 and Jason Gatus 27 to help Heworth make 144-5 despite Colin Banks 3-34.

Banks then followed with 41 and Steve Whisker made 45 but Selby fell just short of their target as they closed at 138-7.

The situation was vastly different in division four where five out of the six games were completed, the exception being the Carlton Towers v Sheriff Hutton Bridge fixture.

The divisional match of th day was at Dunnington where the table-topping hosts suffered a 38 run defeat to complete a bad day for the club.

Their conquerors, Yapham, replaced them at the top of the division. Two significant knocks put Yapham in the driving seat. Jonathan Flint made 51 then veteran Clive Clark hit an unbeaten 63 to help the visitors to a useful 160-5. When Dunnington replied, Nigel Manners made 41 but Angus Scott took charge with 6 for 49 and the home team slipped to second place after being dismissed for 122.

Huntington lost their second place when they were surprisingly beaten by bottom team Sheriff Hutton in a low scoring game at Huntington.

Tony Hull was the only Sheriff Hutton batsman to come to terms with the conditions as he made 41 in a total of 94-7 as Wally Baynes rolled in another five wicket catch, taking 5 for 38. Huntington then found the visiting attack a real handful and with Steve Glaves taking 4 for 24, Tony Hull 3 for 8 and Simon Thornton an identical 3 for 8, they were dismissed for 59 to present Sheriff with their first win which moves them off the foot of the division.

Thirsk gained a narrow three run win over Tadcaster who were dismissed for 105 after restricting the racers to 108-9. Glen Palliser, who made 39, was the only Thirsk batsman to show as Richard Taylor took 3-13 and Phil Wilson 3-17. Martin Palliser then clinched a close win with 5 for 25.

Andy Freeman made 36 and then took 3 for 25 to help New Earswick defeat Selby II by 59 runs. Simon Richards chipped in with 27 in Earswick's 127-9 which was made against Kev Lund's 5-16 and Steve Smith's 3-52. Freeman then helped the Stimpson brothers, Craig (4-16) and Peter (3-8) dismiss Selby for 68.

Tom Piercy hit 66 out of Huby's 149-5 at Pocklington for whom Peter Eastwood took 3-44. I. Wright then hit 67, Gary Milner 34 and Richard Bower 27 as Pocklington went past the target for the loss of 4 wickets.
