YORK children are set to benefit from the legacy of Queen Anne School for years to come after the school shuts this summer.

The school, off Bootham, York, is setting up a bursary fund to support the education of future generations.

The Queen Anne School Bursary Fund will be launched at this summer's garden party when past pupils and staff will join today's students to celebrate the life of the school.

Head teacher Christine Priestley said the bursary fund was being set up to ensure the name and the founding principles of the school continued in York.

She said: "Each year, the bursary will offer a grant to support and further the education of a young person or young people from the "catchment" area of the school."

This area will cover the Clifton, Rawcliffe and Bootham wards of York.

Mrs Priestley said: "We plan to launch the fund at the garden party when we hope people will make contributions towards it."

More than 500 people are expected to attend the garden party on July 8, when work by today's pupils will be on show.

If you would like to support the bursary, please send your donation to Beti Stephenson, finance officer, Queen Anne School, Queen Anne's Road, YO30 7WA. Cheques should be made payable to Queen Anne School Fund.
